La otra pandemia: una mujer es víctima de feminicidio cada 72 horas en Ecuador
El pasado 7 de abril de 2020, una joven ecuatoriana de 22 años, fue asesinada por Wilmer Q, esposo y padre de sus hijos. Desde ese día, el asesino avisó a la madre de su pareja que “no aparecía”, por lo que el 8 de abril fue reportada como desaparecida.
Un día después, el 9 de abril, el sujeto confesó el crimen. El cuerpo de la víctima fue hallado por la Policía con signos de violencia, en el río San Pedro.
Este feminicidio es uno de los 81 registrados en Ecuador desde el 1 de enero hasta el 4 de octubre de 2020 por parte de la Alianza por el Monitoreo y Mapeo de Feminicidios, la cual está conformada por organizaciones feministas. Se calcula que cada 72 horas, una mujer fue víctima de la violencia machista.
Los reportes, además, dan cuenta de los 62 feminicidios perpetrados desde el pasado 16 de marzo en que inició el estado de emergencia por el nuevo coronavirus.
Las leyes en Ecuador
En Ecuador, los asesinatos a las mujeres en base a su género son tipificados como femicidios. Desde el 14 de agosto de 2014, fecha en que el delito entró en vigencia en el Código Orgánico Integral Penal, 813 mujeres han sido víctimas de este crimen, pese a que la Fiscalía solo a reportado 427.
Los colectivos feministas cuestionan esa figura legal, por lo que prefieren llamarlo feminicidio, ya que explican que el concepto se aplica ante la falta de acción del Estado y lo responsabiliza por su desidia.
Feminicidios en Ecuador
El 56% de las víctimas eran madres, según información recabada por la Alianza por el Monitoreo y Mapeo de Feminicidios. Asimismo, en el 72% de los casos, el agresor era del círculo familiar de la víctima y, en lo que va del año, 85 menores se encuentran en situación de orfandad.
Las ciudades que registran el mayor número de asesinatos a mujeres son Guayas (22) y Pichincha(13).
