La mujer de 106 años que se vacunó contra el COVID-19 en EE.UU.: “Quiero vivir más días”
María Torres, que emigró a Estados Unidos desde Guerrero (México) en 1976 y ahora vive en las afueras de Los Ángeles, recibió la aprobación de su médico para que pueda inocularse contra el COVID-19
María Torres, de 106 años, recibió la vacuna del coronavirus gracias a la visita especial en su domicilio en las afueras de Los Ángeles, California (Estados Unidos), de un enfermero para dar un servicio comunitario. El sanitario ofreció su tiempo para llegar hasta la zona y cumplir el deseo de la longeva ciudadana.
“El que se vacuna no se muere pronto. Y eso es lo que no quiero todavía. Quiero estar otros días, lo que Dios quiera, pues, pero mi gusto es ese. Es durar unos días”, contó en una entrevista María Torres a la cadena “Univisión”.
Torres, que emigró a Estados Unidos desde Guerrero (México) en 1976 y fue madre de 12 hijos, recibió la aprobación de su médico de cabecera para que pueda inocularse contra el COVID-19. Por supuesto, se aclaró que se siguieron las pautas de observación y se advirtieron los posibles efectos secundarios. Por tal motivo, la mujer insistió a su nieto para que puedan vacunarla contra la enfermedad.
“Es tan importante como ganarte la lotería o algo así. Porque, para mí, es histórico. Es su vida y a su edad todavía puede pedir cosas. ¿Y por qué no dárselas? (…) Fue una decisión que ella hizo, y yo fui su apoyo”, relató su nieto Frankie Mercado, quien fue criado por María desde los 5 años.
“Cada día que se levanta, me inspira. Cada día que me levanto yo y no la oigo tumbar algo, me da miedo. Es mi vida, mi abuela es mi vida. Mi abuela es todo lo que puedo decir que tengo”, agregó su nieto Frankie.
Por otro lado, el enfermero que llegó a la vivienda también expresó sus comentarios al vacunar a la mujer. “Tenemos a esta señora que tiene ciento seis años, sobrevivió a la última pandemia, y ella no puede salir de su casa. Pensé que venir unas horas le fin de semana era lo menos que podía hacer”.
Estados Unidos alcanzó este jueves 27′893.357 casos confirmados del coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 y 492.999 fallecidos por la enfermedad de COVID-19, de acuerdo con el recuento independiente de la Universidad Johns Hopkins.
Este balance entregado a las 20.00 hora local es de 2.839 muertes más que el miércoles y de 73.120 nuevas infecciones.
California es ahora el estado más golpeado por la pandemia con 48.207 muertos, seguido por Nueva York (46.436), Texas (41.630), Florida (29.474), Pensilvania (23.381), Nueva Jersey (22.721) e Illinois (22.297).
