La historia del astronauta de la NASA que está varado en el espacio hace meses
No puede volver por desperfectos de la nave que lo debe traer de vuelta a la Tierra.
El astronauta estadounidense de origen salvadoreño Frank Rubio, actualmente en misión en la Estación Espacial Internacional (EEI), aseguró que habrá nuevas oportunidades para astronautas latinos en este proyecto de investigación en la órbita terrestre baja.
“Muchos hispanos en el futuro tendrán una oportunidad», señaló Rubio, de 47 años, nacido en Los Ángeles (California), hijo de padres salvadoreños, en una entrevista desde la EEI en el espacio, a unos 400 kilómetros (250 millas) de la Tierra, concedida a la cadena estadounidense de habla hispana Univision.
Rubio, en tono distendido y algunas veces a punto de flotar por efecto de la gravedad, dijo al responsable de meteorología de Univision, Javier Serrano, que se sentía muy bien después de cerca de 6 meses en la EEI, periodo que probablemente doblará y que le puede convertir en el primer astronauta estadounidense e hispano en permanecer un año en el espacio.

Rubio se convirtió, el 21 de septiembre del año pasado, en el décimo segundo hispano en llegar a la EEI, a bordo de una nave Soyuz rusa en el que es el primer vuelo del astronauta de la NASA desde que fue seleccionado -de entre 18.000 personas- por la agencia en 2017.
«Si vuelvo antes -a la Tierra- estaré feliz por estar con mi familia», dijo Rubio ante la posibilidad de que el retorno sea más rápido, aunque reconoció que problemas técnicos han provocado que «pueda permanecer de 3 a 6 meses más en la EEI».
«Nuestra nave fue dañada», matizó sobre los problemas técnicos que pueden retrasar su vuelta a casa, lo que, sin embargo, le permitiría conquistar un récord de permanencia en el espacio.
