Hombre dona plasma para curar el coronavirus luego de superar la enfermedad

Las personas que superan una enfermedad tan peligrosa como el coronavirus no solo recuperan la salud, sino también logran reaccionar y tomar conciencia de lo preciada que es la vida. Esto sucedió en California.
Jason García notó el pasado 6 de marzo que sufría de tos y algo de congestión. “Un resfriado más”, pensó. Pero más tarde, durante un viaje de trabajo, notó un dolor de cabeza persistente. En un día tuvo fiebre y dolores en el cuerpo que iban y venían. Luego comenzó a experimentar dificultad para respirar. Ahí aumentó su preocupación.
El ingeniero aeroespacial de 36 años decidió llamar a su médico y, según sus síntomas, le dijeron que fuera al hospital y se hiciera una prueba de coronavirus.
Tras realizar el test, fue a casa y el 14 de marzo recibió una llamada informándole que había dado positivo al Covid-19.
“Dijeron mantenerse aislados”, dijo Jason. “Eso fue lo que hice”.
Fueron casi 10 días dentro de casa sin tener contacto con alguien. Se mantuvo en su oficina o en su habitación de invitados, alejado de su esposa y su hija de 11 meses, hasta que se sintió mejor el pasado 18 de marzo.
El día 23, recibió una carta del condado de San Diego que decía que era seguro para él salir del aislamiento y reunirse con el mundo.
Para celebrar su recuperación, publicó en redes sociales un mensaje indicando que había vencido al coronavirus.
“Reclamé la victoria sobre este virus mortal. Gané al Covid-19”, escribió.
Los funcionarios de salud del Hospital St. Joseph en el Condado de Orange, California, también recurrieron a las redes sociales para decir que estaban buscando a alguien que haya sido diagnosticado de coronavirus y se había recuperado para ayudar con un tratamiento experimental para salvar vidas.
Jason fue solicitado para donar plasma para un paciente con coronavirus que estaba en estado grave y no respondía a los tratamientos. Aceptó.
«Esto puede convertirse en una oportunidad para salvar la vida de alguien que no puede luchar contra esta enfermedad», dijo.
La donación de plasma permitirá que el paciente con coronavirus actual reciba anticuerpos de García, un paciente recuperado, para ayudar a combatir la enfermedad, dijo Wendy Escobedo, directora de enfermería de servicios renales en el Hospital St. Joseph en un video proporcionado por el hospital.
El 1ero de abril, García donó su plasma para transferencia experimental a tres pacientes. Desde entonces, todos han mostrado mejoras.
“A la persona que estaba en peores condiciones, se le retiraron algunos medicamentos, es más saludable en términos de oxigenación y está progresivamente mejor día a día”, dijo un portavoz del hospital a CNN.
“Cuando me diagnosticaron la sensación de temor y miedo, el hecho fue positivo”, explicó Jason. “Esta cosa terminó posiblemente salvando la vida de alguien”.
“Si esto funciona, habrá una gran oportunidad para que las personas ahorren mucho dolor a los demás y peleen por sus vidas”.
