Flexibilizan la cuarentena y cientos de surfistas invaden las playas de Australia
Preocupación por los miles de surfistas en las aguas de Australia.
Cientos de surfistas invadieron este martes la famosa playa de Bondi Beach, en Sidney, después de que Australia empezara a suavizar las restricciones impuestas para frenar la propagación del coronavirus. El lema de los surfers es «surfeen y váyanse», con la idea de irse rápidamente después de haberse deslizado entre las olas.
Con tablas, decenas de surfistas se lanzaron al agua incluso antes de la apertura oficial de la playa, a las 07, tras cinco semanas de haber permanecido cerrada. Otros esperaron pacientemente y aplaudieron a los empleados municipales que abrieron las barreras para acceder al agua. En la arena, no quedó nadie.
En la playa, durante el poco tiempo que están, los surfistas respetan el distanciamiento social. «Estaba esperando este momento desde hace una semana. Me dije: a las 7,30 estaré ahí. Es realmente emocionante», explicó a la AFP Diane Delaurens, después de salir del agua.
La reapertura de Bondi y de otras playas cercanas tiene lugar en el marco de la flexibilización de las restricciones en varios estados australianos, alentados por el menor aumento de nuevos casos de COVID-19 en Australia. Nueva Gales del Sur, el Estado australiano más poblado, anunció el martes que seguiría algunas iniciativas tomadas por otras zonas. Una de ellas es que, a partir del viernes, sus habitantes podrán recibir a dos visitantes por hogar.
Australia registró unos 6.700 casos de contagio de COVID-19, de los que murieron 84, en una población de unos 25 millones de personas.El número de nuevos casos está disminuyendo de forma leve desde la semana pasada.
