Expertos recomiendan uso doble de cubrebocas contra el COVID-19 y te dicen cómo hacerlo
El uso doble de cubrebocas ayudará a prevenir que el virus entre a las vías respiratorias
Para protegerse del COVID-19 el uso de cubrebocas ha sido una de las medidas más repetidas desde el inicio de la pandemia, pero ahora los expertos incluso recomiendan el uso doble de mascarilla y, para hacerlo de la manera correcta, debes ver el material con el que está hecho, cuál iría primero y la comodidad para respirar.
Debido a las variantes del coronavirus como la del Reino Unido o Sudáfrica, expertos en enfermedades infecciosas están recomendando el uso doble de cubrebocas cuando se esté en público.
“Una sola mascarilla es un filtro, un sistema de filtración para ayudar a protegerse a si mismo y a los demás […] Y si se coloca una segunda mascarilla sobre la primera, aumentará la fuerza del filtro y ayudará a prevenir que el virus entre a sus vías respiratorias. La cantidad depende de los cubrebocas usados y de la calidad individual de cada uno”, señaló Anita Gupta, profesora de la escuela de medicina de la Universidad de Johns Hopkins en Estados Unidos.
Considerando lo establecido por Gupta, no sería extraño que el doble uso de cubrebocas comience a ser habitual; sin embargo, si se utilizan mascarillas N95 O KN95, esta opción no sería necesaria, ya que este tipo de protección tiene la capacidad de bloquear partículas pequeñas y grandes al momento de exhalar o inhalar.
Ahora bien, si no se tiene la oportunidad de ocupar cubrebocas con el 95% de eficacia y se opta por el uso doble de mascarillas, hay que tener en cuenta diversos factores.
Ya sean de un solo uso o de tela, lo mejor será usar mascarillas que tengan múltiples capa de filtración. La más común es la tricapa.
“Dependiendo del tipo de tejido que esté hecha la mascarilla, es posible que no pueda contener todas las partículas del virus. Agregar otra puede mejorar esa calidad. También puede que el ajuste sea un poco más apretado, lo que también ayuda con la contención del virus”, señaló la doctora Michelle Barron de la UCHealth en Denver.
Pese a una seguridad mayor que puede representar el usar doble cubrebocas, no se debe dejar de lado la comodidad, ya que esto puede hacer que se tenga mayor dificultad para respirar. “El desafío de dos mascarillas es que pueden hacerla menos transpirable”, dijo la doctora Gupta, por lo que hay que prestar atención.
Cuando se usen dos mascarillas también se debe considerar aquella que esté más ajustada al momento de colocársela y la que tenga mejor capacidad de filtración de partículas, pues esa es la que irá más cerca de la cara.
Aunque el proceso de vacunación ha comenzado en varios países del mundo, el uso de cubrebocas seguirá siendo vital para evitar la propagación del virus y hacerlo correctamente es necesario.
