El presidente de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, realizará el miércoles una visita de solidaridad a Israel tras el ataque del grupo islamista palestino Hamás, anunció el secretario de Estado, Antony Blinken.
«El presidente reafirmará la solidaridad de Estados Unidos con Israel y nuestro férreo compromiso con su seguridad», declaró Blinken a primera hora del martes, en Tel Aviv.
«Israel tiene el derecho, y de hecho, el deber de defender a su población de los ataques de Hamás y otros terroristas y de prevenir futuros ataques», indicó Blinken.
Biden «escuchará de Israel lo que necesita para defender a su pueblo mientras trabajamos con el Congreso para satisfacer esas necesidades», dijo
Biden espera «escuchar de Israel como desarrollará las operaciones de forma que se minimicen las bajas civiles y se permita la llegada de la asistencia humanitaria a los civiles en Gaza y que no se beneficie a Hamás», expresó Blinken.
«A nuestra solicitud, Estados Unidos e Israel acordaron formular un plan que permitirá que la ayuda humanitaria de países donantes y organismos multilaterales llegue a los civiles en Gaza», dijo Blinken.
Añadió que los dos lados discuten la «posibilidad de crear áreas para ayudar a mantener a los civiles fuera de peligro».
