Donald Trump reconoció este jueves que su mandato está terminando y prometió una «transición en orden», después de que el Congreso certificara la victoria electoral del demócrata Joe Biden y tras los violentos disturbios registrados en el Capitolio en Washington.
«Aunque estoy totalmente en desacuerdo con el resultado de estas elecciones y los hechos me apoyan, habrá una transición en orden el 20 de enero», dijo en un comunicado.
«Esto representa el fin de uno de los mejores primeros mandatos presidenciales y es solo el inicio de nuestra lucha para devolver a Estados Unidos su grandeza», agregó.
La reacción de Trump llegó a través de la cuenta en Twitter de Dan Scavino, uno de sus principales asesores, porque la cuenta del presidente saliente está suspendida temporalmente, debido a unos mensajes en los que el mandatario justificó el asalto al Capitolio por parte de sus simpatizantes.
Trump no llegó a reconocer del todo la derrota en su comunicado, algo que prometió a sus seguidores que «nunca» haría, pero sí admitió que su mandato llega a su fin, y que tendrá que abandonar la Casa Blanca el próximo 20 de enero.

Su mensaje llegó minutos después de que el Congreso de EE.UU. ratificara la victoria del presidente electo, Joe Biden, en un gesto normalmente ceremonial que derivó en uno de los días más oscuros de la historia de Estados Unidos.
El vicepresidente estadounidense, Mike Pence, que presidía la sesión, declaró en la sesión que la ratificación del Congreso debía considerarse «suficiente» para aceptar la elección de Biden.
Pence puso así fin a una sesión que comenzó a primera hora de la tarde del miércoles y quedó interrumpida por el extraordinario asalto al Capitolio de los seguidores del presidente Donald Trump, un asedio que duró casi cuatro horas y se saldó con cuatro muertos, 14 policías heridos y al menos 52 detenidos.
