Corea del Sur confirma que está luchando contra la segunda ola de coronavirus

Las autoridades de salud pública de Corea del Sur han confirmado que el país está experimentando una «segunda ola» de coronavirus dentro y cerca de Seúl, impulsada por brotes pequeños pero persistentes derivados de un feriado en mayo, reseña Reuters.
Previamente, los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (KCDC) anunció que la primera ola de la pandemia en el país nunca había terminado realmente.
Corea del Sur fue escenario del primer gran brote del SARS-CoV-2 fuera de China, reportando un máximo de unos 900 nuevos casos en un día a finales de febrero. Gracias a su estrategia de rastreo y pruebas masivas, el número de infecciones se redujo a un solo dígito a fines de abril y el país anunció que aliviaría las pautas de distanciamiento social a principios de mayo.
Poco después, los nuevos casos aumentaron, en parte debido a infecciones entre jóvenes que visitaron clubes nocturnos y bares en Seúl durante el fin de semana festivo.
Por su parte, el alcalde de Seúl, Park Won-soon, señaló en una rueda de prensa que, si bien los números de contagios diarios pueden estar en niveles manejables, si las tasas de infección recientes continúan, la ciudad pronto podría reportar cientos de casos por día.
