China amenazó a EE.UU. con ‘’represalias’’ si adopta sanciones por su supuesta responsabilidad en la pandemia
En Estados Unidos, los senadores presentaron un proyecto que daría al presidente Donald Trump el poder de imponer sanciones a China si Pekín no proporciona un «informe completo» sobre la pandemia de COVID-19.
China advirtió el jueves que tomaría «medidas de retorsión» si el Congreso estadounidense adopta sanciones contra Pekín por su supuesta responsabilidad en la epidemia de la COVID-19. «Estamos resueltamente opuestos a esos proyectos y adoptaremos una respuesta firme y medidas de retorsión» si son adoptados, advirtió ante la prensa el portavoz de la Asamblea Nacional Popular (ANP, parlamento chino), Zhang Yesui.

La administración Trump acusa a las autoridades chinas de haber tardado en alertar al mundo sobre la epidemia y de haber ocultado su amplitud. El presidente de Estados Unidos y su secretario de estado, Mike Pompeo, sospechan abiertamente que Pekín ocultó un supuesto accidente en un laboratorio de virología en Wuhan, que habría sido la causa de la pandemia.
En respuesta, Pekín acusa a Washington de convertirlo en un chivo expiatorio. Estados Unidos es, de lejos, el país más afectado por la epidemia. «No es responsable ni moral ocultar sus propios problemas acusando a los demás», dijo Zhang, en vísperas de la apertura del período de sesiones anual de la ANP. «Nunca aceptaremos demandas injustificadas ni demandas de indemnización», advirtió.
