China amenaza a Australia con tomar represalias económicas si insiste en investigar el origen del coronavirus
El embajador también rechazó que el brote de coronavirus se hubiera iniciado en el mercado de Wuhan.
El embajador de China en Australia, Cheng Jingye, ha advertido este lunes que Australia podría enfrentar un impacto económico, si insiste en investigar el origen de la pandemia de coronavirus.
En una entrevista publicada este lunes por The Australian Financial Review, el embajador calificó de «peligroso» el impulso de Canberra para iniciar una investigación independiente y aseguró que esto podría desencadenar un boicot por parte de los consumidores chinos que no podrán viajar ni estudiar en Australia o comprar importantes exportaciones que incluyen la carne de res y vino.
Estas declaraciones surgen luego de que el primer ministro australiano, Scott Morrison, y la ministra de Relaciones Exteriores, Marise Payne, se unieran la semana pasada al pedido de EE.UU. de iniciar una investigación independiente acerca de «los orígenes y la propagación de la pandemia», informa Reuters.
De igual manera, Morrison buscó apoyo en las principales potencias mundiales. Sin embargo, Francia y Reino Unido aseguraron que este es el momento de combatir el virus y no atribuir culpas.
Hasta la fecha se han registrado 2.994.690 contagios, mientras que la cifra de muertes ha alcanzado 207.270 a nivel mundial, y los recuperados suman 875.054, según los últimos datos actualizados por el Centro de Ciencia e Ingeniería de Sistemas de la Universidad Johns Hopkins, que monitorea las estadísticas a escala internacional.
