La búsqueda de la longevidad ha fascinado a la humanidad durante siglos, generando un sinfín de estudios y teorías sobre cómo prolongar la juventud y mejorar la calidad de vida. En este contexto, Julius Abraham, un hombre de 54 años, asegura haber encontrado un método inusual para detener su envejecimiento desde los 36 años, lo que le ha valido ser confundido con un veinteañero.
Julius, quien se desempeña como comediante, presentador de concursos y subastador de automóviles, atribuye su apariencia juvenil a un hábito peculiar: beber el agua de su vaporera de verduras. Inspirado por un creador de contenido en YouTube, comenzó esta práctica hace 18 años después de ver a una persona de 70 años que aparentaba 30 debido a su dieta de alimentos crudos y el consumo del líquido resultante de la cocción.
En una entrevista con Ladbible, Julius explicó cómo adoptó esta rutina: «Tenía 36 años cuando empecé. Vi a este hombre en YouTube que consumía todos sus alimentos crudos y bebía el agua de la cocción. Parecía muchísimo más joven de lo que realmente era». Desde entonces, Julius ha incorporado este hábito en su vida diaria, utilizando zanahorias, kale, brócoli, coliflor y calabacín.
El proceso que sigue es sencillo pero constante. Lava las verduras en agua hirviendo, las pela y las pica antes de colocarlas en la vaporera. Luego, una vez que las verduras están cocidas, retira el líquido y lo deja enfriar durante la noche para consumirlo al día siguiente junto con las verduras.
Julius disfruta de los beneficios de su práctica: «La gente siempre piensa que soy más joven de lo que realmente soy, ¡y me encanta! Mi novia tiene 27 años, y nadie nota la diferencia de edad entre nosotros. Mantenerse joven es maravilloso». Además, agregó que evita los dolores y molestias típicos del envejecimiento: «La gente busca la fuente de la juventud».
Aunque su método no cuenta con respaldo científico, Julius defiende su efectividad: «Obtengo agua purificada con todos los nutrientes de las verduras y también consumo las verduras, así que es una doble ganancia. Antes le añadía limón, pero ahora me he acostumbrado al sabor; es bastante dulce».
De acuerdo con el sitio especializado Birdseye, cocinar al vapor es una de las mejores maneras de preservar las propiedades nutritivas de las verduras, ya que este método utiliza poca agua y calor suave. Las vitaminas hidrosolubles, como la vitamina C, B6 y B12, son especialmente sensibles y pueden perderse durante la cocción. Además, cocinar al vapor mantiene la textura crujiente y el color vibrante de las verduras, siendo una opción rápida y saludable.
