En un hospital de la India, una mujer dio a luz a un bebé con una condición extremadamente rara: el recién nacido tenía dos caras, cuatro piernas y cuatro brazos. Los médicos explicaron que el bebé tenía un cuerpo adicional que no se desarrolló completamente, lo que provocó la duplicación de extremidades y facciones que sobresalían de su pecho.
Esta condición, conocida como diprosopus, es muy poco común, ocurriendo en aproximadamente uno de cada 180 mil a 15 millones de nacimientos. Lamentablemente, el bebé falleció a las pocas horas de nacer.
Según informó el periódico británico ‘Daily Mail’, la madre del bebé no había recibido exámenes prenatales, por lo que no estaba al tanto de la condición de su hijo antes del parto. Aunque el nacimiento se desarrolló sin complicaciones, el personal del hospital fue acusado de abandonar al bebé tras su nacimiento, según ‘The Mirror’.
Casos similares han sido reportados en diferentes partes del mundo. Un ejemplo es el de los «gemelos araña» en Indonesia, que nacieron unidos por la pelvis, con tres piernas, cuatro brazos y un solo pene.
En otro incidente en 2022, también en la India, un bebé con cuatro extremidades adicionales nació, causando un gran revuelo en la comunidad. Algunos habitantes consideraron al recién nacido como un prodigio y una posible encarnación de una deidad hindú. Kareena, la madre del bebé, llegó al Centro de Salud Comunitario de Shahabad en Uttar Pradesh solicitando asistencia tras experimentar contracciones.
El bebé nació con un peso de 2,94 kilogramos y tenía dos brazos y dos piernas adicionales adheridas a su abdomen. La noticia del nacimiento atrajo a muchas personas de la región al hospital, quienes creían que el bebé era una reencarnación de Lakshmi, la diosa hindú de la riqueza, el poder, la belleza y la fertilidad.
