En el texto, el pontífice argentino subraya que aunque la democracia ha sido adoptada globalmente en las últimas décadas, enfrenta serias enfermedades como el escepticismo democrático. Para Francisco, estas amenazas se manifiestan en la desigualdad social y en lo que él denomina el «paradigma tecnocrático», donde las nuevas tecnologías imponen sus propias dinámicas en la vida moderna.

Para él, la política es el espacio donde una comunidad puede debatir libremente en búsqueda del bien común.
