Funcionarios estadounidenses confirmaron este viernes que Washington no recibió ningún aviso previo sobre el gran ataque aéreo lanzado por Israel en los suburbios del sur de Beirut, donde presuntamente se dirigió contra la sede de Hezbolá. La subsecretaria de prensa del Pentágono, Sabrina Singh, declaró que «Estados Unidos no participó en esta operación y no recibimos ningún aviso previo».

El secretario de Defensa de EE. UU., Lloyd Austin, quien se encontraba regresando de un viaje a Londres, se comunicó con su homólogo israelí, Yoav Gallant, mientras la operación aún estaba en curso. Según Singh, el Pentágono sigue buscando más detalles sobre el ataque y está tratando de comprender completamente la naturaleza de la operación.
La Casa Blanca informó que el presidente Joe Biden fue puesto al tanto de la situación poco después de que comenzara el ataque.
