Bec Macnamara, una mujer australiana, recientemente ha acaparado la atención pública al compartir su sorprendente historia. Lo que inicialmente parecía una simple lesión de rodilla resultó ser un agresivo cáncer.
Dolor Inesperado
El año pasado, Bec, una entusiasta del ejercicio y competidora de crossfit, comenzó a experimentar dolor en su rodilla izquierda mientras entrenaba para una competencia. Pensando que era una lesión común debido al ejercicio, buscó la ayuda de un fisioterapeuta.
«Trabajamos durante un tiempo en lo que creíamos que era una lesión de rodilla. Tenía un poco de dolor en el muslo, pero el fisioterapeuta pensó que era algo secundario como resultado de la lesión de rodilla», comentó Bec en una entrevista con Daily Mail.
Una Revelación Sorprendente
A pesar del tratamiento, el dolor no solo persistió sino que empeoró con el tiempo. Esto llevó a que los médicos le recomendaran una resonancia magnética. El resultado fue inesperado: una lesión cancerosa de 20 cm en su fémur izquierdo.
«Después de varios meses, el dolor siguió empeorando y el dolor en el muslo se agravó. Fue un shock porque esperaba ver algún tipo de distensión muscular o daño en los ligamentos como resultado de mi entrenamiento, pero detectar lo que se sospechaba que era cáncer fue un shock enorme», relató Bec.
Decisiones Difíciles
Para confirmar el diagnóstico, Bec se sometió a una biopsia quirúrgica donde se tomaron muestras del fémur. Tras considerar las opciones de tratamiento, optó por la amputación de la pierna. Esta decisión, aunque difícil, fue tomada con la esperanza de incrementar sus posibilidades de supervivencia.
«Esa fue probablemente la razón principal por la que decidí optar por la amputación, porque me enfatizaron que debido a que el cáncer era de naturaleza tan agresiva, era muy importante que recibiera quimioterapia lo antes posible. En mi caso, al tener tres hijos pequeños, prefiero perder la pierna y tener más posibilidades de sobrevivir que correr el riesgo de no sobrevivir», explicó Bec.
