Maduro felicita a Biden por tomar la «decisión correcta» al renunciar a su candidatura

En una declaración que sorprendió a muchos, el presidente venezolano Nicolás Maduro elogió el domingo a su homólogo estadounidense, Joe Biden, por su reciente decisión de retirarse de la carrera presidencial para los comicios de noviembre. Según Maduro, Biden tomó una «decisión sabia y correcta» al optar por no buscar un segundo mandato.
Durante un evento en el estado de Barinas, ubicado en el oeste de Venezuela, Maduro afirmó que Biden actuó con sensatez al priorizar su salud y bienestar familiar en lugar de continuar con una campaña presidencial. El presidente venezolano subrayó que, dadas las dificultades físicas y mentales que enfrenta Biden a sus 81 años, su decisión de no presentarse para la reelección fue la más acertada.
El anuncio de Biden de abandonar la competencia electoral se produjo después de enfrentarse a crecientes preocupaciones sobre su capacidad para liderar, exacerbadas por varios tropiezos, incluido un desafortunado debate contra el republicano Donald Trump. En lugar de continuar su candidatura, Biden ha respaldado a su vicepresidenta, Kamala Harris, como su sucesora.
Maduro, quien ha mantenido un diálogo constante con la administración estadounidense a pesar de la ausencia de relaciones diplomáticas formales desde 2019, mencionó que había mantenido conversaciones regulares con Biden durante los últimos tres años. Sin embargo, el presidente venezolano no proporcionó detalles específicos sobre estos intercambios.
«Conozco al presidente Biden y puedo decir con certeza que su decisión fue la correcta. Debe estar en paz con su conciencia», comentó Maduro, quien también está inmerso en su propia campaña electoral en Venezuela. En las próximas elecciones del 28 de julio, Maduro buscará su tercer mandato de seis años frente al candidato opositor Edmundo González Urrutia, quien ha ganado relevancia en la política venezolana al capitalizar la popularidad de la inhabilitada líder María Corina Machado.
Maduro también aprovechó para señalar que algunos grupos políticos en Estados Unidos presionaron a Biden para que continuara su candidatura a toda costa. En contraste, el presidente venezolano se prepara para las elecciones locales con una campaña que también se enfrenta a retos significativos.
