Irán condena a EEUU a pagar casi 6.800 millones de dólares en daños y perjuicios

Irán Condena a Estados Unidos por Caso de Epidermólisis Ampollosa
En un fallo histórico, el tribunal internacional de Teherán ha condenado a Estados Unidos a pagar una compensación de 6.785 millones de dólares a los pacientes afectados por epidermólisis ampollosa, una rara enfermedad de la piel, según informó el jueves el sitio Mizan Online, vinculado al poder judicial iraní.
La epidermólisis ampollosa es una condición que causa ampollas y fragilidad en la piel, y los pacientes afectados en Irán habrían sufrido la falta de tratamiento debido a las sanciones impuestas por Estados Unidos tras su retiro unilateral del acuerdo nuclear en 2018. Este retiro resultó en la reinstauración y ampliación de sanciones que impactaron severamente el acceso a medicamentos esenciales.
El tribunal destacó que estas medidas estadounidenses habrían provocado la muerte de al menos 20 personas que padecían esta enfermedad, al privarles del acceso a los medicamentos necesarios para su tratamiento.
El juicio, iniciado en noviembre de 2021 en Teherán, vio la participación de 295 supervivientes y pacientes que presentaron una denuncia contra 30 funcionarios estadounidenses por su papel en la aplicación de estas sanciones que afectaron directamente la salud de los iraníes.
Este fallo subraya las críticas de varias organizaciones no gubernamentales que han alertado sobre el impacto devastador de las sanciones estadounidenses en la salud pública de Irán, limitando significativamente la capacidad del país para importar medicamentos y afectando negativamente a la población más vulnerable.
