En un incidente impactante en la provincia de Célebes Meridional, Indonesia, una mujer de 36 años fue encontrada muerta dentro del estómago de una pitón, luego de haber desaparecido el martes por la mañana mientras compraba medicamentos para su hijo enfermo, según informó la policía local.
La familia de la víctima, alarmada por su ausencia, organizó una búsqueda desesperada. Fue el esposo quien hizo un descubrimiento macabro cerca de su hogar en el pueblo de Siteba: encontró los zapatos y el pantalón de su esposa a unos 500 metros de distancia, junto a una pitón aún viva.
«Observó el vientre notablemente hinchado de la pitón y solicitó la ayuda de los vecinos para abrir al animal», relató Iyang, un responsable local. Dentro del reptil yacía el cuerpo de la mujer, cuyo destino trágico ha conmocionado a la comunidad.
Este incidente es el segundo de este tipo en el último mes en la región, donde a principios de junio otra mujer de 45 años fue encontrada muerta dentro de una pitón reticulada de cinco metros en la misma provincia. La creciente incidencia de tales tragedias subraya los riesgos inesperados que enfrentan las comunidades rurales en Indonesia, donde las pitones, aunque raramente, atacan y devoran a seres humanos.
En años recientes, casos similares han sido reportados, incluyendo el de un granjero en Tinanggea, que fue estrangulado y devorado por una pitón de ocho metros, así como el de una mujer de 54 años en Muna, víctima de una pitón de siete metros. Estos eventos trágicos son recordatorios de la imprevisibilidad de la vida en las áreas donde estos gigantescos reptiles coexisten con las comunidades locales.
La pitón, conocida por su capacidad para cazar presas de gran tamaño, normalmente se alimenta de roedores, peces y otros reptiles, pero ejemplares más grandes pueden cazar animales mucho más grandes, incluidos monos, ciervos e incluso leopardos, lo que plantea un peligro potencial para los residentes locales en áreas rurales
