El multimillonario que pretende bajar a los restos del Titanic tras un año de implosión del Ocean Gate
Se ha dedicado a la exploración submarina desde 1975 y ha estado involucrado en investigación y desarrollo de varios vehículos submarinos.

Luego, en medio de una rueda de prensa, John Mauger, contraalmirante de la Guardia Costera de Estados Unidos, confirmó que los restos pertenecían al sumergible ‘Titán’ y no había sobrevivientes.

A pesar de la trágica noticia y de que no se ha cumplido un año de la misión fatídica de Ocean Gate, Triton Submarines, una empresa creada en 2008 de la mano de Patrick Lahey pretende realizar una expedición similar.
De acuerdo con Forbes España, el magnate Patrick Lahey se ha dedicado a la exploración submarina desde 1975 y ha estado involucrado en investigación y desarrollo de varios vehículos submarinos y sistemas de buceo (incluidos más de 60 sumergibles tripulados) desde entonces.
A la expedición asistirá Lahey junto al multimillonario estadounidense, Larry Connor, quien es astronauta privado certificado por la NASA.
“Quiero mostrar a la gente de todo el mundo que, aunque el océano es extremadamente poderoso, puede ser maravilloso y agradable y cambiar realmente la vida si se hace de la manera correcta”, afirmó Connor en conversación con el Wall Street Journal.
¿Cómo se planea la nueva inmersión al Titanic?
El plan de los magnates es que el submarino, de 20 millones de dólares llamado Tritón 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer pueda realizar el viaje y demostrar que es posible sin correr tanto riesgo. Cabe resaltar que Lahey fue un detractor de Titan a pesar de que este sumergible logró coronar varias expediciones hasta las profundidades donde se encuentra el Titanic.
De acuerdo con el sitio web de Tritón Submarines, se describe al artefacto como “una plataforma flexible y de alto rendimiento diseñada específicamente para aplicaciones profesionales” y que es capaz de sumergirse a 4.000 metros de profundidad.
En otros detalles, Tritón 4000/2 tiene 4.45 metros de largo, 3 m de alto y 2.75 m de ancho, dimensiones similares a las de una camioneta grande.
A pesar de que ya se tiene conocimiento sobre la intención de realizar la expedición, detalles como cuántos tripulantes o cuándo se hará es información que no se ha revelado. Sin embargo, se espera que los millonarios entreguen más datos en fechas no tan lejanas.
Patrick Lahey rechazaba negocio de Ocean Gate
Ocean Gate había sido fundada por el ingeniero y explorador Stockton Rush, que falleció en la misión fatídica a bordo de Titán y uno de sus más grandes detractores fue Patrick Lahey, quien en une entrevista con The Times habló sobre las operaciones de esa compañía.
“Es algo terriblemente triste que su vida haya terminado de esa manera, pero PH conocía los riesgos… Le dije en términos muy sinceros por qué no debería estar allí. Él entendió. Creo que PH pensó de alguna manera que al estar allí podría ayudar a estos muchachos a evitar una tragedia, pero terminó en medio de una”.
Agregó su opinión sobre el sumergible de Ocean Gate y dijo que estaba muy lejos de los submarinos fabricados por su empresa Triton Submarines. “En el mismo momento en que se estaba haciendo esta monstruosidad, estaba construyendo los submarinos más capaces de nuestra era”.
