El ejército israelí comunicó este domingo que implementará una «pausa táctica» diaria en sus operaciones militares en el sur de la Franja de Gaza para permitir la distribución de ayuda humanitaria. Esta pausa se llevará a cabo todos los días, desde las 08:00 hasta las 19:00 horas (hora local), a lo largo de la carretera que conecta el cruce de Kerem Shalom con la carretera de Salah al Din y hacia el norte.
Según el comunicado del ejército, esta medida forma parte de los esfuerzos para «incrementar los volúmenes de ayuda humanitaria que ingresan a la Franja de Gaza». La decisión se tomó tras discusiones con la ONU y otras organizaciones internacionales.
Israel ha subrayado sus esfuerzos para facilitar la entrega de ayuda, especialmente a través del cruce de Kerem Shalom. Sin embargo, grupos humanitarios han señalado que la situación en Gaza sigue siendo crítica, con una grave escasez de alimentos y otros suministros esenciales.

A pesar de los esfuerzos de mediadores internacionales, como el presidente estadounidense Joe Biden, para lograr un acuerdo de tregua entre Israel y el grupo islamista Hamás que permita un canje de rehenes por prisioneros y un aumento en la entrega de ayuda, las negociaciones se encuentran en un punto muerto.
Carl Skau, subdirector ejecutivo del Programa Mundial de Alimentos, destacó la dificultad de la situación: «Con la anarquía en la Franja y el conflicto activo, se ha vuelto casi imposible entregar la ayuda necesaria para satisfacer las crecientes demandas en el terreno».
La comunidad internacional sigue presionando a ambas partes para alcanzar una solución que permita aliviar la situación humanitaria en Gaza, mientras los habitantes del territorio palestino enfrentan una situación cada vez más desesperada.
