Biden presenta un nuevo plan de alto el fuego de Israel y pide a Hamás que lo acepte

El presidente de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, instó el viernes a los militantes de Hamás a considerar una nueva oferta de Israel que propone la liberación de rehenes a cambio de un alto el fuego en Gaza, argumentando que esta medida podría ser el primer paso para poner fin al conflicto mortífero.
En un comunicado emitido el viernes, Biden expresó: «Con un alto el fuego, esa ayuda podría distribuirse de forma segura y eficaz a todos los que la necesitan». Destacó su compromiso de larga data con Israel y recordó su visita al país en tiempos de guerra, así como el reciente envío de fuerzas estadounidenses para defender a Israel durante el ataque de Irán.
Una propuesta anterior sobre la liberación de rehenes planteada este año incluía la liberación de rehenes enfermos, ancianos y heridos de Gaza a cambio de un alto el fuego inicial de seis semanas, con la posibilidad de extenderlo para permitir la entrega de más ayuda humanitaria al enclave.
Sin embargo, esta propuesta colapsó recientemente cuando Israel se negó a aceptar el fin permanente de la guerra como parte de las negociaciones, intensificando su asalto a la ciudad de Rafah, en el sur de Gaza.
Hamás anunció el jueves que no participaría en más negociaciones durante el conflicto en curso, pero mostró disposición para llegar a un «acuerdo completo», que incluiría un intercambio de rehenes y prisioneros, si Israel detenía la guerra.
Un alto funcionario estadounidense reveló que el asesor de seguridad nacional de la Casa Blanca, Jake Sullivan, sostendría el viernes reuniones con diplomáticos de 17 países cuyos ciudadanos están secuestrados en Gaza por Hamás.
Por su parte, un alto cargo de seguridad israelí afirmó el viernes que Israel no aceptará ningún cese del fuego que no forme parte de un acuerdo que garantice la devolución de los rehenes con vida.
El portavoz de seguridad nacional de la Casa Blanca, John Kirby, aseguró el martes que las operaciones terrestres recientes de Israel en Rafah no afectarán la entrega de más ayuda militar estadounidense.
Según las autoridades sanitarias palestinas, más de 36,280 personas han perdido la vida en Gaza desde que Israel respondió al ataque de Hamás el 7 de octubre en el sur de Israel. Por su parte, el ataque de Hamás ha cobrado la vida de aproximadamente 1,200 personas, según los informes de Israel.
