En medio de una devastadora guerra que ha cobrado la vida de más de 39 mil palestinos y ha dejado gran parte de Gaza en ruinas, Ola al-Kurd, embarazada de nueve meses, esperaba con ansias el nacimiento de su bebé, un rayo de esperanza en tiempos oscuros. Sin embargo, su sueño fue truncado el 19 de julio cuando un ataque aéreo israelí destruyó su hogar en al-Nuseirat, en el centro de Gaza, según relató su padre, Adnan al-Kurd.
La explosión no solo acabó con la vida de Ola sino también con la de varios familiares que se encontraban en la casa, entre ellos mujeres, niños y ancianos. A pesar del impacto devastador, el bebé que Ola llevaba en su vientre sobrevivió milagrosamente, aunque ella no tuvo la misma suerte. Su esposo también sobrevivió y fue trasladado al hospital para recibir tratamiento.
Adnan al-Kurd expresó su asombro y dolor ante la pérdida de su hija mientras sostenía una foto de su graduación. «Es un milagro que el feto siguiera vivo dentro de ella cuando fue martirizada», comentó. La ofensiva israelí, iniciada en respuesta a un ataque de Hamás el 7 de octubre del año pasado, ha dejado un rastro de tragedias similares en toda Gaza. A pesar de los esfuerzos de mediación de Estados Unidos, Qatar y Egipto, un alto el fuego sigue siendo improbable.
En el hospital al-Awda de Nuseirat, los cirujanos lograron realizar una cesárea de emergencia para traer al mundo al recién nacido, Malek Yassin. Posteriormente, el bebé fue trasladado al hospital al-Aqsa en Deir al-Balah, donde su tía pudo tocarle la cara mientras yacía en una incubadora. «Gracias a Dios, se salvó la vida de este bebé, que ahora está sano y salvo», declaró el médico Jalil al-Dakran, destacando las dificultades que enfrentan debido a la escasez de suministros y medicamentos.
Adnan al-Kurd visita a su nieto todos los días, encontrando en él un vínculo con su hija fallecida y los demás miembros de su familia perdidos en el conflicto. «Forma parte de mí», afirmó, contemplando las fotos de sus tres hijos muertos en la guerra. Malek Yassin, descrito como rubio como su difunto tío Omar, es uno de los muchos bebés que nacen en medio de la constante amenaza de bombardeos.
El doctor al-Dakran subrayó los desafíos que enfrenta el departamento de enfermería debido a la falta de recursos y al temor de que el generador del hospital se quede sin combustible. Los hospitales de Gaza han sufrido graves daños o han sido completamente destruidos durante la guerra, que comenzó con un ataque de Hamás en Israel que dejó 1,200 muertos y más de 250 rehenes.
«¿Qué culpa tiene este niño para tener que empezar su vida en circunstancias difíciles y muy malas, privado de las necesidades más básicas de la vida?», se preguntó al-Dakran, reflejando la difícil situación que enfrentan los recién nacidos en Gaza. Mientras la comunidad internacional sigue buscando una solución al conflicto, la historia de Ola al-Kurd y su hijo recién nacido, Malek Yassin, resalta la desesperada necesidad de paz y estabilidad en la región.
