CON solicita al Gobierno reconocimiento económico para medallista Sherman Guity
Guity ganó una medalla de oro y otra de plata en los Juegos Paralímpicos Tokyo 2020.
Alexander Zamora, nuevo jerarca del Comité Olímpico Nacional (CON), espera que la administración de Carlos Alvarado apoye con un reconocimiento económico al medallista Sherman Guity quien obtuvo dos preseas, una de oro y otra de plata, en los Juegos Paralímpicos Tokyo 2020.
Zamora brindó las declaraciones durante el recibimiento del paraatleta la noche de este jueves 9 de setiembre.
“En Costa Rica estaba el premio Claudia Poll y fue suspendido, esperamos que no que lo restablezcan, pero sí que reconozca el Gobierno de la República a Sherman algún tipo de contenido económico. Eso es una iniciativa más a nivel estatal”, agregó.
El lunes 30 de agosto, el paravelocista costarricense ganó la medalla de plata en la categoría de 100 metros planos T64 del atletismo en los Juegos Paralímpicos Tokyo 2020, tras cruzar la meta con un tiempo de 10.78 segundos.
Sherman, quien compitió en el carril 6, rompió por segunda ocasión consecutiva el récord paralímpico e impuso una nueva marca en la prueba.
La categoría de para atletismo T64 se refiere a los atletas que compiten en velocidad y tienen una amputación en la pierna.

No hay duda que los resultados de Sherman Guity hablan por si solos y que su proeza logró un éxito histórico para Costa Rica en los Juegos Paralímpicos Tokyo 2020.
Ya en el país existía un reconocimiento por parte del Estado a los deportistas costarricenses, cuyas actuaciones merecían títulos o medallas en juegos olímpicos, torneos o campeonatos mundiales, previamente reconocidos por el Consejo Nacional de Deportes.
En 1997 fue creado el Premio Nacional Deportivo Claudia Poll por la Ley 7703.
Todo iba bien hasta que en 2010 el nadador Jonathan Mauri ganó una medalla de oro en el Campeonato Mundial Masters de Natación en Gotemburgo, Suecia.
Mauri consideró que ese, más otros logros que había tenido a lo largo de su carrera, eran suficientes para obtener el reconocimiento deportivo, fue postulado pero no ganó.
Inconforme con el resultado, Jonathan, inició una demanda contra el Estado que al final tuvo que cancelarle la suma de ₡233 millones (₡160 millones del premio y el resto por intereses y daño moral).
Pero en diciembre de 2020 el premio fue anulado, luego de que la Procuraduría General de la República (PGR) presentara una acción de inconstitucionalidad.
