Rusia envía a Brasil una solicitud de registro de su vacuna candidata Sputnik V
Por la alta incidencia del virus y las dimensiones continentales del país, Brasil se ha convertido en terreno fértil para las farmacéuticas que buscan a contrarreloj una vacuna contra la enfermedad.
El Fondo de Inversión Directa de Rusia (RDIF) anunció este sábado 31 de octubre que ha enviado a Brasil una solicitud de registro de su vacuna experimental contra el nuevo coronavirus bautizada como Sputnik V.
De acuerdo a un comunicado del organismo ruso publicado en su web oficial, la presentación preliminar fue cursada en las últimas horas a la Agencia Nacional de Inspección Sanitaria de Brasil (Anvisa), responsable del control de todos los productos y servicios sujetos a vigilancia sanitaria, tales como medicamentos y alimentos.
La vacuna rusa (no reconocida por la OMS), desarrollada por el centro de investigaciones epidemiológicas y microbiología Gamaleya, fue registrada en ese país el pasado 11 de agosto. Basada en adenovirus humanos, se encuentra en la fase III de los ensayos clínicos, en los que participan más de 40.000 voluntarios de Rusia y otros países.
Anvisa, órgano vinculado al Ministerio de Salud de Brasil, ha afirmado, no obstante, que “hasta el momento” no ha recibido ninguna documentación. La máxima autoridad sanitaria del país sudamericano remarcó, en una misiva pública, que tampoco tiene en su poder ninguna solicitud “formal” para la autorización de los ensayos clínicos de la fórmula rusa en Brasil.
Dos estados brasileños, Paraná (sur) y Bahía (nordeste), firmaron sendos acuerdos para experimentar la Sputnik V entre sus habitantes, aunque para ello necesitan el aval de Anvisa, algo que aún no se ha producido.
Brasil, con unos 212 millones de habitantes, es el segundo país con mayor número de muertes por coronavirus en el mundo, con 158.969 óbitos registrados, apenas después de Estados Unidos, y el tercero con más contagios al contabilizar 5.494.376, solo por detrás de EE.UU. y la India.

En el país ya se experimentan las vacunas que desarrollan Johnson & Johnson, el consorcio formado por BioNTech (Alemania) y Wyeth/Pfizer (Estados Unidos), así como las fabricadas por la compañía china Sinovac y la británica AstraZeneca junto con la Universidad de Oxford.
