Fallece Lee Kun-hee, presidente de Samsung, a los 78 años
El hombre más rico del país, con más de 20 mil millones de dólares de fortuna, estaba ingresado en un hospital de Seúl desde 2014.
El grupo Samsung Electronics, el mayor conglomerado empresarial de Corea del Sur, ha anunciado hoy la muerte a los 78 años de su presidente, considerado el hombre más rico del país. Lee Kun-hee llevaba ingresado en un hospital de Seúl desde 2014 a causa de infarto que lo dejó incapacitado.
La compañía ha explicado en un comunicado que su presidente ha fallecido “acompañado por su familia, incluyendo al vicepresidente (del grupo) Jay Y.Lee”, conocido como Lee Jae-yong y que, como heredero del imperio que dirigía su padre, ha estado al frente del conglomerado desde que su progenitor quedó postrado en una cama hace más de seis años.
Lee Kun-hee, tercer hijo del fundador de Samsung, Lee Byung-chul, era l a mayor fortuna de Corea del Sur con un neto calculado en más de 20.000 millones de dólares (unos 16.860 millones euros), según Forbes, y fue el hombre que convirtió al conglomerado en un ente multinacional con el gigante tecnológico Samsung Electronics al frente.
“El presidente Lee fue un verdadero visionario que transformó a Samsung al convertir a una empresa local en líder mundial en innovación y poder industrial”, elogió la empresa en el comunicado, y agregó: “Su legado será eterno”.
Samsung es, con mucho, el mayor de los conglomerados de Corea del Sur que dominan la duodécima economía más grande del mundo.La facturación total de la empresa es equivalente a una quinta parte del Producto Interno Bruto del país, lo que la hace crucial para la salud económica de Corea del Sur.
Bajo el mandato de Lee Kun-hee, Samsung Electronics Co. se convirtió en una marca global y en el mayor fabricante mundial de teléfonos inteligentes, televisores y chips de memoria. Samsung vende teléfonos Galaxy y también fabrica las pantallas y microchips que alimentan a sus rivales, los iPhone de Apple y los teléfonos Android de Google. Sus negocios abarcan, entre otros, construcción naval, seguros de vida, construcción, hoteles y operaciones de parques de diversiones. Samsung Electronics por sí sola representa el 20% del capital de mercado en el principal mercado de valores de Corea del Sur.
