Sonda de la NASA recoge muestras de un asteroide por primera vez
El asteroide Bennu se encuentra a más de 320 millones de kilómetros de la Tierra y la sonda Osiris-Rex aterrizó en él, luego de cuatro años.
Una de las misiones históricas de la NASA se dio gracias a que la sonda estadounidense Osiris-Rex logró aterrizar en el asteroide Bennu, donde recogió muestras para devolver a la Tierra en 2023. Es la primera vez que la NASA logra que una sonda toque tierra en un asteroide.
La sonda Osiris-Rex fue lanzada en septiembre de 2016 en Cabo Cañaveral y, luego de cuatro años, pudo aterrizar en Bennu, que se localiza a más de 320 millones de kilómetros de la Tierra.
De acuerdo con los informes de la NASA, la sonda llegó al asteroide el 3 de diciembre de 2018 y empezó a orbitar a su alrededor el 31 de ese mismo mes.
¿CÓMO FUE EL ATERRIZAJE?
Osiris-Rex arrojó nitrógeno comprimido sobre la superficie de Bennu para levantar polvo y grava, para que la sonda lo recogiera.
“Esta ha sido una hazaña increíble”, afirmó el comunicado de la NASA.

“Un pedazo de roca primordial ha sido testigo de toda la historia de nuestro sistema solar y puede estar ahora listo para volver a casa, con generaciones de descubrimientos científicos, y estamos ansiosos por ver qué viene después”, menciona el mensaje de la NASA.
El aterrizaje de Osiris-Rex está previsto para el 24 de septiembre de 2023 en el desierto de Utah.
