Cae la cantidad de muertes por coronavirus en Río de Janeiro
También se reducen los contagios.
El estado brasileño de Río de Janeiro completa casi cuatro semanas con su curva de muertes por coronavirus en descenso pese a que inició prematuramente la desescalada de las medidas de aislamiento social y a que la pandemia sigue creciendo a largos pasos en otras regiones de Brasil.
El promedio diario de muertes por covid-19 en el estado más emblemático de Brasil en la semana que concluye este martes se ubicó en 111, tras haber sido de 183 en la semana concluida el 20 de junio, desde cuando comenzó a caer gradualmente, según los datos divulgados por la secretaría regional de Salud.
Los contagios también se redujeron. Tan sólo en Río de Janeiro capital el promedio diario de casos cayó en un 21 %, desde 736 en la última semana de junio hasta 678 en la primera semana de julio y 581 en la semana segunda semana de julio.
En comparación con la primera semana de junio (1.552 contagios diarios), el número de casos se redujo casi en una tercera parte.
Según la secretaría regional de Salud, 79 de los 92 municipios del estado de Río de Janeiro, el 86 % del total, registraron una reducción en el número de casos de coronavirus en la semana concluida este martes con respecto a la inmediatamente anterior.
Pese a esa mejoría, este estado de 17 millones de habitantes acumulaba hasta el lunes 132.044 casos de coronavirus y 11.474 muertes, lo que lo ubicaría, si fuese un país, como el vigésimo del mundo más afectado por la pandemia, por detrás de Colombia (154.277 contagios), y el duodécimo con más muertes, por detrás de Rusia (11.597 víctimas), según los datos de la Universidad Jonhs Hopkins.
Ni la secretaría de Salud ni los analistas consiguen explicar cómo la curva continúa su declinación pese a que varios de los municipios de Río de Janeiro, comenzando por la capital regional, iniciaron prematuramente, hace más de dos semanas, sus procesos de desescalada.
La ciudad de Río es una de las que más ha flexibilizado medidas de distanciamiento social y ya autorizó el funcionamiento de restaurantes, bares, gimnasios, tiendas en la calle, centros comerciales, salones de belleza, iglesias y parques, entre otras actividades, y fue la primera en toda Sudamérica en retomar su campeonato profesional de fútbol (aunque con estadios sin público).
«Hace más o menos tres semanas comenzamos a verificar el inicio de una caída progresiva de casos y muertes. Nos sorprendió ese fenómeno y tan sólo podemos explicarlo con la hipótesis de que mucho más gente de la que esperábamos se contagió de la enfermedad, lo que favoreció la llamada inmunidad de rebaño», afirmó el profesor Lisandro Lovisolo, miembro del Observatorio Fluminense sobre covid-19 de la Universidad del Estado de Río de Janeiro (UERJ).
«Había una hipótesis de que el retorno de las actividades podría aumentar el número de casos, pero eso no ocurrió. Eso puede estar vinculado a la inmunidad de grupo», dijo por su parte el médico Daniel Soranz, investigador de la Escuela Nacional de Salud.
Pese a la disminución del número de muertes y de casos en Río, así como a una aparente estabilidad en Sao Paulo, la pandemia continúa agravándose en Brasil en general, con el aumento de víctimas en estados del sur y del oeste, y confirmando al país como uno de los nuevos epicentros globales de la enfermedad.
Mientras que las muertes crecieron en las dos últimas semanas en diez de los 27 estados de Brasil, incluyendo Minas Gerais (el segundo más poblado) y Brasilia; registraron estabilidad en otros diez, incluyendo en Sao Paulo, y bajaron en los siete restantes.
Entre los que registraron reducción del número de víctimas destacaron Río Grande do Norte (-39 %), los amazónicos de Amapá (-22así como Río de Janeiro (-16 %).
Brasil acumulaba hasta el lunes 72.833 muertes y 1,88 millones de casos por la pandemia, que lo convierten en el segundo país con más víctimas y contagios en el mundo después de Estados Unidos.
