México en alerta por aparición de avispón gigante asiático en Estados Unidos
El Gobierno de México anunció la puesta en marcha de un sistema de «vigilancia epidemiológica» para prevenir la entrada en el país del avispón gigante asiático.
El Gobierno de México anunció este sábado la puesta en marcha de un sistema de «vigilancia epidemiológica» para prevenir la entrada en el país del avispón gigante asiático (vespa mandarina) luego de que se detectaran ejemplares de esta especie invasora en Estados Unidos.
«Aun cuando esta plaga se encuentra en la frontera norte de Estados Unidos, a más de 2.500 kilómetros del territorio nacional, es importante comenzar su búsqueda para que en caso de que se registrara su entrada a México estar en la posibilidad de reaccionar oportunamente», informó en un comunicado la Secretaría de Agriculura de México.
El Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria de México incluyó la búsqueda del avispón gigante en sus «programas de vigilancia epidemiológica» después de que se detectaran ejemplares en el estado de Washington, en el noroeste de Estados Unidos, fronterizo con Canadá.
Además, se informará a los agricultores mexicanos que «existe el riesgo de picaduras a personas y animales, que su veneno es más tóxico que el de cualquier especie residente en el continente americano y que, debido a su tamaño, la ropa de protección común es insuficiente para evitar picaduras».
