Estados Unidos ya tiene casi 80 mil muertos por coronavirus
Coronavirus en Estados Unidos: son más de 78.000 las muertes y 1,3 millón los contagios.
Estados Unidos, el país más castigado por el coronavirus en el mundo, superó este sábado la barrera de los 78.000 fallecidos y registra más de 1,3 millón de contagios, según el conteo que realiza la Universidad Johns Hopkins.
Hasta el momento son 78.320 las muertes en el país, sobre un total de 1.300.79 casos positivos confirmados.
Mientras tanto, la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos de Estados Unidos (FDA por sus siglas en inglés) anunció este sábado una autorización de emergencia para pruebas de antígenos desarrolladas por Quidel Corp. de San Diego. La prueba puede rápidamente detectar fragmentos de proteínas en muestras tomadas con hisopos del interior de la cavidad nasal, detalló la FDA en un comunicado.
La prueba de antígenos es el tercer tipo de prueba en ser autorizado por la FDA.
Un segundo tipo de prueba analiza los anticuerpos en la sangre, las proteínas producidas por el organismo días o semanas después de luchar contra la enfermedad. Dichas pruebas son útiles para que los investigadores comprendan qué tanto se ha propagado el virus en una comunidad, pero no para detectar contagios activos.
Las pruebas de antígenos pueden diagnosticar infecciones activas al detectar los más recientes rastros tóxicos del virus en lugar del código genético del virus en sí.
La FDA indicó que espera autorizar más pruebas de antígenos próximamente.
