‘’Avispones asesinos’’, un insecto monstruoso y aterrador que puede decapitar abejas y matar humanos
Alarma en Estados Unidos por la invasión de un insecto mortal.
Como si 2020 ya no fuera lo suficientemente malo por la pandemia de coronavirus, Estados Unidos ahora tiene otro problema para preocuparse: un insecto monstruo aterrador apodado el «avispón asesino».
Oficialmente llamado avispón gigante asiático, o Vespa mandarinia, los enormes insectos fueron vistos por primera vez en diciembre en Washington. «Son como una caricatura de monstruo con esta enorme cara de color amarillo anaranjado», graficó Susan Cobey, criadora de abejas del Departamento de Entomología del Estado de Washington.
Si bien generalmente no son agresivos con las personas o las mascotas, los avispones pueden atacar si son provocados, dicen las autoridades, y matar a personas en circunstancias extremas.
En 2013, entre julio y octubre, los insectos mataron a 41 personas e hirieron a 1.600 en la provincia de Shaanxi, Japón, durante una temporada de avispas particularmente mala, según informó la BBC.
Looney además colocó varias trampas caseras colgadas de los árboles en la zona en la que fueron vistas para tratar de acabar con estos feroces insectos. Los avispones llegaron también hasta Canadá, concretamente a White Rock (Columbia Británica) a unos 16 kilómetros de los avistamientos de Washington.
Jun-ichi Takahashi, investigador de la Universidad de Kyoto Sangyo en Japón, explicó que los ataques grupales de las avispas pueden exponer a sus víctimas a dosis de veneno equivalente al de una serpiente, por lo que varias picaduras pueden llevar incluso a la muerte.
