Curan y devuelven a su hábitat natural a 26 koalas heridos en los incendios de Australia
Fueron recuperados en un hospital después de haber sido rescatados en una reserva natural de la isla Canguro.
La acción de grupos de voluntarios y las autoridades del país ha permitido atender y regresar a su hábitat a los miles de koalas que resultaron heridos durante la ola de incendios forestales que se desató en Australia durante setiembre del 2019 y que se extendió hasta las primeras semanas de enero del siguiente año.
Los marsupiales heridos se encontraban en observación en el único hospital de koalas del mundo, ubicado en la ciudad de Port Macquarie en Nueva Gales del Sur, Australia.
La famosa ejemplar fue la tercer paciente en ser ingresada al Hospital Port Macquarie en octubre del 2019, días después de que este abrió sus puertas.
Anwen es uno de los 26 koalas que han sido reasentados en la Reserva Natural del Lago Innes en Nueva Gales del Sur. La zona protegida se encuentra en el Mar de Tasmania en la costa del estado.
Afortunadamente para el ecosistema, las precipitaciones superaron la cantidad y frecuencia proyectadas, permitiendo la recuperación de miles de hectáreas cercanas al área del lago Innes, una de las más dañadas por los incendios forestales.
Con esta milagrosa recuperación del ecosistema, los rescatistas pudieron reinsertar más rápidamente a los koalas.
A través de un comunicado, la directora gerente de Turismo de Australia Phillipa Harrison aseguró que “mientras todos enfrentamos tiempos difíciles e inciertos, esta increíble historia de esperanza sirve como un recordatorio de la capacidad de recuperación de nuestra increíble flora y fauna y personas”.
Y es que, a pesar de su carácter insular, factor que podría condicionar la llegada de una pandemia, el paso del coronavirus por el país ha registrado 6.649 casos, que incluyen a 74 fallecidos y 4.761 personas recuperadas. Desde hace más de una semana, el incremento de nuevas infecciones es menos de 50 diarias.
La pandemia también ha golpeado duramente al sector turismo en Australia, al igual que otros países, por lo que un grupo de voluntarios busca captar donativos para tratar a los koalas heridos a través de Turism Australia, un portal en línea que permite realizar viajes virtuales a cambio de donativos
