Diecinueve niños en refugio de inmigrantes dan positivo a COVID-19

Al menos 19 niños y dos empleados en un refugio de menores inmigrantes no acompañados en Estados Unidos en el estado de Chicago han dado positivo por COVID-19, en lo que parece ser el mayor brote del virus en el país en estos refugios, informó este lunes el medio de periodismo de investigación ProPublica.
Heartland Human Care Services confirmó a ProPublica que los primeros resultados positivos en el refugio del área de Bronzeville se dieron el viernes pasado, y en el fin de semana se registraron casos adicionales.
Los funcionarios dijeron que esperan que se informen más casos en el lugar.
En un comunicado enviado al sitio de investigación, Mailee García, portavoz de la organización, dijo que están operando «bajo el supuesto de que verán diagnósticos positivos adicionales» a medida que reciban resultados de las otras pruebas que se han administrado.
«El pronóstico para todos los niños bajo nuestro cuidado es muy bueno, y continuamos enfocándonos en la salud y el bienestar de nuestros participantes», añadió.
El pasado 27 de marzo la Oficina de Reasentamiento de Refugiados (ORR) informó de los primeros tres casos entre menores indocumentados bajo su custodia. Los casos se reportaron en Nueva York.
Para el miércoles pasado, ORR anunció otros tres casos, elevando el número a seis, todos en refugios en Nueva York, el área más golpeada del país por la pandemia.
