El alcalde de Nueva York, Eric Adams, compareció el viernes ante el tribunal para enfrentar múltiples cargos de fraude y soborno, en un caso que ha sacudido a la ciudad. Adams está acusado de fraude electrónico, solicitud de donaciones extranjeras ilegales para su campaña electoral de 2021 y aceptación de sobornos.
A pesar de los llamados a su renuncia, Adams se ha mantenido firme, asegurando que está dispuesto a defenderse y pidió a los neoyorquinos que escuchen su versión de los hechos. Al ingresar al tribunal federal de Manhattan, evitó hacer declaraciones a los medios, pero mostró un gesto de optimismo levantando el pulgar.
Las acusaciones incluyen crímenes que se remontan a la época en la que Adams dirigía el distrito de Brooklyn. A pesar de su baja popularidad, con solo un 28% de aprobación a fines del año pasado, Adams planea buscar la reelección en 2025, a menos que las investigaciones judiciales interfieran en sus aspiraciones.
