Primera costarricense en MIT para Bioingeniería: ´Cada día parece un sueño´
María José Durán, una joven costarricense de Sabanilla de Montes de Oca, ha hecho historia al convertirse en la primera tica aceptada en el prestigioso Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) para estudiar Bioingeniería. Durante una entrevista con Extra Radio, compartió lo surrealista que se siente vivir esta oportunidad: “Cada día que me despierto en MIT es como estar en un sueño, algo que jamás imaginé”, expresó.
A pesar de que en MIT ya hay otros costarricenses, Durán es la primera en ingresar a esta carrera, un logro que no solo la llena de orgullo, sino que también le da una gran responsabilidad. La joven también fue admitida en otras universidades de renombre como Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UW y UCSF, pero finalmente eligió MIT, considerada la mejor universidad del mundo.
De biotecnología en el TEC a bioingeniería en MIT
Este logro no llegó de la noche a la mañana. La joven comentó que ha sido el resultado de años de esfuerzo y dedicación. Inicialmente, se preguntaba por qué había sido seleccionada para estudiar en una universidad tan prestigiosa, pero pronto cambió su enfoque hacia lo que podría hacer con esa oportunidad. Ahora, está comprometida en ayudar a otros estudiantes que buscan seguir sus pasos, compartiendo consejos y su experiencia en el proceso de admisión.
“Crecí en una familia humilde, donde la mayoría no tuvo la oportunidad de ir a la universidad, pero fueron el mejor ejemplo para mí. Siempre sentí que con trabajo duro no había límites”, destacó Durán, quien ha convertido ese ímpetu en su motor para alcanzar sus metas.
Lo que viene para Durán
Además de su aceptación en MIT, Durán recibió un premio de la Presidencia del MIT, un reconocimiento otorgado a los estudiantes más destacados a nivel mundial, lo que subraya aún más su extraordinario talento y esfuerzo.
