El tabaquismo y el vapeo: amenazas silenciosas en el ámbito laboral
En el marco de la Semana del Bienestar, el Consejo de Salud Ocupacional (CSO) llevó a cabo una charla informativa sobre la importancia de crear espacios de trabajo libres de humo de tabaco y vapeadores, destacando el impacto negativo de estas prácticas en la salud y productividad de los trabajadores.
El experto Freddy Ledezma Orozco, del Ministerio de Salud, abordó el preocupante efecto del consumo de tabaco y el uso de vapeadores en la vida personal y laboral de los costarricenses.
“El tabaco no solo afecta al fumador; las consecuencias del humo de segunda (exhalado por el fumador o humo que sale de la brasa del cigarro) y tercera mano (contaminación residual del tabaquismo que se adhiere a las paredes y otras superficies) son devastadoras para quienes lo rodean”, añadió.
En este contexto, el especialista enfatizó la necesidad de seguir avanzando en la regulación de productos de tabaco y vapeo, recordando que en Costa Rica se han promulgado leyes como la 9028, que regula los productos de tabaco y sus efectos nocivos del tabaco en la salud y la 10066.
Ledezma también subrayó que el consumo de tabaco y el uso de vapeadores no solo perjudican la salud individual, sino que impactan negativamente en el entorno laboral, disminuyendo el rendimiento de los trabajadores.
“El vapeo puede parecer atractivo por su sabor y aroma, pero es letal para la salud”, afirmó, enfatizando que esta práctica ha ganado popularidad en Costa Rica a pesar de los avances en el control del tabaco.
Asimismo, alertó sobre la aparición de dispositivos electrónicos diseñados para eludir las leyes existentes, instando a las autoridades a fortalecer la regulación sobre el uso de vapeadores.
“Es crucial que los centros de trabajo se declaren libres de humo para garantizar la salud de todos los empleados”, concluyó Ledezma, instando a las empresas a adoptar políticas más estrictas en torno al consumo de tabaco y vapeadores.
Con más de 8 millones de muertes anuales a nivel mundial atribuidas al consumo del tabaco, es imperativo que tanto los empleadores como los empleados tomen medidas decisivas para crear un entorno laboral más saludable.
