ICE no descarta aumento en la tarifa eléctrica para 2025 debido a condiciones climáticas
El Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) ha dejado abierta la posibilidad de que el costo de la electricidad pueda aumentar en 2025, dependiendo de las condiciones meteorológicas que se presenten. Este anuncio se realizó durante una reciente conferencia de prensa en la que se abordó el panorama energético para el próximo año.
Ajustes al alza, ¿una posibilidad real?
Durante la conferencia, el ICE reconoció que un incremento en las tarifas eléctricas es una posibilidad si las condiciones climáticas no mejoran. Agustín Murillo, gerente interino de Electricidad del ICE, subrayó que el aumento en los precios dependerá de la cantidad de lluvias que se registren. “Estamos a merced del clima y de la llegada de las lluvias previstas. La vulnerabilidad ante las condiciones meteorológicas es un hecho, dada nuestra matriz de generación mayoritariamente renovable,” comentó Murillo.
Este pronóstico es un contraste significativo con la propuesta a la baja que el ICE había presentado a la Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep), revelada en la conferencia de prensa del 11 de septiembre.
Desafíos por déficit de lluvias
En los últimos días, el ICE ha observado una reducción en los niveles de lluvia, cruciales para la generación hidroeléctrica. Esta disminución ha llevado a una revisión de las proyecciones climáticas. Berny Fallas, del área climatológica del ICE, destacó que la variabilidad e incertidumbre climática ha afectado la precisión de las previsiones para 2024. “Las proyecciones internacionales han mostrado un déficit en los frentes fríos y una variabilidad mayor de lo habitual,” explicó Fallas.
Preparación y expectativas para el próximo año
A pesar de estos desafíos, el ICE afirma estar preparado para enfrentar la temporada seca con los recursos necesarios para garantizar la producción energética. Las proyecciones para el próximo año sugieren un incremento en la demanda de electricidad entre un 4,2% y un 5%.
Mientras tanto, se espera que las lluvias sean normales o superiores durante enero y febrero, con una tendencia a la sequía en los meses siguientes. En cuanto al recurso eólico, se anticipa una baja disponibilidad durante el resto del año, con un leve incremento en los primeros meses de 2025, seguido de una disminución en la primavera.
