Lo que prometía ser un viaje inolvidable alrededor del mundo a bordo del crucero de lujo Villa Vie Odyssey se ha convertido en una pesadilla para sus pasajeros. Tras cuatro meses varado en el puerto de Belfast, Irlanda, los viajeros, que soñaban con explorar el mundo, han tenido que adaptarse a una rutina inesperada, sin señales claras de cuándo podrán continuar con su travesía.
El lujoso crucero, que debía partir el 30 de mayo, ha estado detenido por fallos en sus timones y en la caja de cambios, problemas técnicos que han impedido que zarpe. Mientras los expertos intentan solucionar los desperfectos, los pasajeros pasan sus días en tierra firme. Aunque tienen acceso a las instalaciones del barco durante el día, en la noche deben desembarcar y buscar alojamiento en la ciudad.
Holly Hennessey, una de las pasajeras afectadas, compartió con medios británicos que la experiencia es «casi como un crucero, excepto que estamos atrapados en el muelle». A pesar de que pueden disfrutar de las comidas y entretenimiento a bordo, la estancia en Belfast se ha vuelto monótona para muchos. «Ya hemos visitado todos los pubs, probado el pescado y las papas fritas, y escuchado la música irlandesa. Ahora estamos listos para movernos a otro lugar», comentó Johan Bodin a la cadena ABC.
Villa Vie Odyssey ofreció a algunos de sus pasajeros la posibilidad de adquirir sus cabinas permanentemente, en lugar de pagar una tarifa diaria. Según su sitio web, los precios de estas habitaciones oscilan entre los $99,999 y $899,900 dólares, lo que equivale a entre 421 millones y 3.7 mil millones de pesos colombianos. Sin embargo, este lujo no ha sido suficiente para compensar los meses de incertidumbre.
La situación empeoró recientemente cuando la empresa a cargo del crucero, Villa Vie Residences, informó a los pasajeros que, debido a la crisis financiera, ya no podría cubrir los gastos de hotel y alimentación. Según informó la publicación ‘TTW’, la compañía envió un correo a los afectados explicando que, al menos por los próximos siete días, cada pasajero tendría que asumir sus propios costos.
Antes de esta notificación, la empresa había cubierto todos los gastos relacionados con el alojamiento y las comidas. Sin embargo, ahora enfrentan una situación crítica, lo que ha generado aún más frustración entre los viajeros que esperaban una solución rápida.
El gerente de marketing de Villa Vie Residences, Sebastián Stokkendal, reconoció recientemente que la reactivación del barco de 30 años ha sido mucho más compleja de lo que inicialmente se estimó. En un correo enviado a medios, mencionó que «esperamos un lanzamiento exitoso la próxima semana», destacando que el crucero tiene previsto dirigirse a ciudades como Bremerhaven, Ámsterdam, Lisboa y, posteriormente, cruzar el Atlántico hacia el Caribe.
Los pasajeros, sin embargo, siguen esperando con incertidumbre, después de cuatro largos meses atrapados en tierra.
