En medio de la temporada de lluvias, que ha traído consigo un aumento en enfermedades respiratorias, las autoridades sanitarias hacen un llamado urgente a la población para completar sus esquemas de vacunación. Los virus predominantes en esta época incluyen el respiratorio sincitial y el rinovirus, además de la covid-19 y otros agentes patógenos como el metapneumovirus, adenovirus y parainfluenza.
El doctor Elvis Delgado Delgado, de Vigilancia Epidemiológica de la Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS), ha subrayado la importancia de estar al día con las vacunas disponibles. La CCSS ofrece una amplia gama de vacunas contra estos virus respiratorios, incluyendo la vacuna contra la influenza, que estuvo disponible durante los meses de junio y julio. Actualmente, la institución también dispone de la versión más actualizada de la vacuna contra la covid-19.
«Tenemos suficientes dosis de la vacuna contra la covid-19 y para recibir el refuerzo anual, solo debe acudir al centro de salud más cercano, sin necesidad de hacer una cita previa,» explicó Delgado. Además, la CCSS ofrece la vacuna Neumococo 23 para personas mayores de 60 años y la Neumo 13 para menores de edad, que se administra a los dos, cuatro y quince meses de edad, como parte del esquema básico de vacunación infantil.
El doctor Delgado enfatizó que las vacunas no solo protegen a quienes las reciben, sino también a sus contactos cercanos, especialmente a las poblaciones más vulnerables. La CCSS concluyó con éxito su campaña anual de vacunación contra la influenza estacional, dirigida a las poblaciones prioritarias definidas por la Comisión Nacional de Vacunación y Epidemiología (CNVE).
Las autoridades de la CCSS y del Ministerio de Salud continúan trabajando para fortalecer y ampliar la cobertura de vacunación, con el objetivo de reducir las complicaciones y hospitalizaciones relacionadas con las enfermedades respiratorias.
