Rodrigo Chaves bajo la lupa: Fiscalía investiga presunto lavado de dinero y otras 50 causas
El presidente Rodrigo Chaves Robles se encuentra en el centro de una investigación penal abierta por la Fiscalía General, según confirmó este miércoles el Ministerio Público. Esta investigación, que se enmarca dentro de las 50 causas penales que se mantienen en curso, se originó a partir de denuncias que sugieren la posible legitimación de capitales por parte del mandatario.
El caso específico, identificado bajo el expediente 24-000029-0033-PE, involucra la supuesta adquisición irregular de una vivienda y relojes de lujo. La Fiscalía señaló que estas compras podrían estar vinculadas a alianzas con grupos delictivos, lo que motivó la apertura de la investigación. A pesar de la seriedad de las acusaciones, el Ministerio Público ha decidido no divulgar más detalles debido a que el proceso aún está en curso.
Durante una conferencia de prensa realizada este miércoles, Chaves respondió de manera enfática a las acusaciones, describiéndolas como «inventos» y «patrañas». Sin embargo, evitó confirmar si estaba al tanto de la existencia de esta denuncia en particular.
Chaves defendió su trayectoria profesional de 36 años en el extranjero, donde trabajó en 42 países, manejando grandes sumas de dinero en su rol diplomático y en proyectos de desarrollo internacional con el Banco Mundial. Expresó incredulidad ante las acusaciones, afirmando que cualquier insinuación de colusión con grupos criminales para adquirir su hogar es absurda.
Además, Chaves negó haber comprado relojes de alto costo recientemente, afirmando que no ha adquirido ninguna de estas piezas desde su regreso a Costa Rica en 2020. «No le debo un colón a ningún banco ni tarjeta de crédito. Mucho menos estaría relacionado con grupos criminales para recibir favores», añadió el mandatario.
51 causas penales y contando
Desde que asumió el poder hace dos años, Chaves ha acumulado al menos 51 causas penales en la Fiscalía General, de las cuales 41 siguen abiertas hasta la fecha. Estas investigaciones incluyen presuntos delitos como incumplimiento de deberes, tráfico de influencias, nombramientos ilegales y prevaricatos, algunos de los cuales se remontan al 2022.
La más reciente investigación se relaciona con las visitas del empresario de apellidos Pacheco Dent a Casa Presidencial, quien es investigado por la presunta tala ilegal dentro de su finca en Gandoca, Manzanillo de Limón.
De las 51 causas, siete han sido remitidas a la Sala Tercera de la Corte Suprema de Justicia para su posible desestimación. Este órgano, encargado de juzgar a miembros de los Supremos Poderes, deberá decidir si se cerrarán estas investigaciones. Aunque varios expedientes han sido acumulados en otras causas, hasta ahora ninguno ha sido elevado a acusación formal.
El fiscal general, Carlo Díaz, aseguró que todas las investigaciones están avanzando conforme a lo establecido por la ley, y rechazó cualquier insinuación de retrasos injustificados. Según Díaz, algunos casos son más sencillos, mientras que otros requieren una investigación más compleja, pero todos están siendo tramitados como corresponde.
