Niño de 8 años pierde la visión de un ojo tras ser golpeado con piedra en escuela
El pasado 26 de abril, la vida de Stephanie Cortés Saborío cambió drásticamente cuando su hijo de 8 años sufrió una lesión ocular grave en la Escuela Lagos de Lindora, en Santa Ana. Durante uno de los recreos, un compañero de clase lanzó una piedra que impactó en el ojo derecho del menor, dañando irreparablemente los fotorreceptores de su retina.
El 4 de julio la tristeza creció cuando los médicos del Hospital Nacional de Niños (HNN) le indicaron que la lesión es inoperable y que la consecuencia será la pérdida de la visión central de forma irreversible.
Los hechos
Según indicó el periódico La Nación, el lamentable hecho ocurrió cuando el pequeño se encontraba en recreo junto a sus compañeros de tercer grado. De pronto otro estudiante comenzó a tirar piedras.
La madre del menor relató al citado medio que su hijo decidió dejar de jugar tan pronto como el compañero comenzó a lanzar piedras. Sin embargo, otros estudiantes lo sujetaron de la camisa para evitar que se fuera, lo que permitió al otro alumno lanzarle una piedra a corta distancia, la cual impactó en su ojo derecho.
El pequeño tuvo que esperar cerca de un mes para que la zona donde recibió el golpe se desinflamara debido a la gravedad del impacto. Solo así le realizaron exámenes, entre ellos un TAC, que fueron los que determinaron la magnitud del daño.
Desde entonces, Cortés dejó temporalmente su emprendimiento para dedicarse a la atención médica de su hijo, quien también ha sufrido un impacto emocional significativo, llevándola a cambiarlo de escuela.
En un intento de responsabilizar a los involucrados, Stephanie presentó una denuncia en la Fiscalía de Pavas por negligencia, daños y perjuicios e incumplimiento de deberes. Sin embargo, la respuesta de las autoridades ha sido lenta, y tanto la escuela como el Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS) no han cumplido con los procedimientos necesarios, según la madre.
“Busco hacer conciencia con esta situación que vive mi hijo, por lo que puede llegar a hacer un daño como este que le ocasionaron, y uno irreversible. Mi hijo está muy deprimido, y yo esperando que Dios haga un milagro en él”, comentó Cortés a La Nación.
“Él me cuenta que tiene un poco de visión a los lados pero solo si hace ciertos movimientos de cabeza. No distingue los colores. La visión es oscura y se le traza una línea. Mi fe es que haya alguna manera de corregirle el daño”, añadió.
¿Qué dice el MEP?
Por su parte, el Ministerio de Educación Pública (MEP) afirmó que se siguieron los protocolos establecidos y que el incidente fue gestionado de inmediato, aunque admitieron que la agresión ocurrió poco después del recreo.
“Se activa también el Reglamento de Evaluación de los Aprendizajes para determinar la responsabilidad del menor que aparentemente lo lastimó y se aplican las acciones correctivas correspondientes”, aseguró Geovanny Soto, director regional de Educación de San José Oeste.
“En cuanto al tema de la vigilancia en el centro educativo, ya este tenía un rol de cuido en los recreos. Vale aclarar que la situación entre estos dos menores ocurre unos minutos después del ingreso del receso”, agregó Soto.
