Un trágico incidente en China ha dejado una víctima mortal tras una explosión provocada por una batería de litio. El suceso ocurrió cuando un hombre, que llevaba la batería en sus manos, subió a un ascensor. Apenas las puertas del elevador se cerraron, una chispa de la batería estalló, causando una explosión que resultó en quemaduras fatales para el individuo.
Las cámaras de seguridad del edificio captaron el momento en que el hombre abordó el ascensor y, poco después, el interior del elevador se encendió en llamas. La violenta explosión dejó al hombre gravemente quemado, y pese a los esfuerzos de vecinos y paramédicos, no se pudo salvar su vida.
En un video adicional, se puede ver a dos personas esperando el ascensor que, al presenciar la escena del hombre en llamas, decidieron no subir. En su lugar, llamaron a los servicios de emergencia. Al llegar, los bomberos utilizaron extintores para sofocar el fuego dentro del ascensor y retiraron al hombre, quien estaba completamente quemado. Los paramédicos lo colocaron en una camilla y lo trasladaron del lugar.
Este incidente no es un caso aislado. El 24 de junio, una explosión en una fábrica de baterías de litio en Corea del Sur causó la muerte de 23 personas. Los trabajadores en la planta, ubicada en el segundo piso donde se inspeccionan y empaquetan las baterías, escucharon varias explosiones antes de que un humo blanco se extendiera rápidamente. La agencia de noticias Yonhap informó que el humo tóxico probablemente aturdiendo a los empleados, mientras que el litio hizo que los esfuerzos por extinguir el incendio fueran infructuosos.
