La noche del martes, un trágico incidente en el municipio de Argelia, en el suroeste de Colombia, marcó un hito en la violencia relacionada con el conflicto armado del país. Un niño de diez años, identificado como Dylan, perdió la vida debido al impacto de una granada lanzada desde un dron. Este evento ha sido catalogado por el ejército colombiano como el primer ataque letal con aeronaves no tripuladas en la nación.
El general Federico Mejía, al frente del Comando Específico del Cauca, confirmó la noticia en un video compartido en la red social X. Mejía explicó que el ataque, que utilizó drones para lanzar granadas, fue dirigido contra las tropas en el Cañón del Micay, una región conocida por su conflicto con grupos armados.
De acuerdo con el Ministerio de Defensa, consultado por la AFP, el fallecimiento de Dylan marca el primer caso mortal de este tipo de ataques en Colombia. El trágico suceso ocurrió en una cancha de pasto sintético en el Corregimiento de El Plateado, en el departamento de Cauca, mientras la comunidad asistía a un partido de fútbol. Además de la muerte del niño, siete personas resultaron heridas en el ataque.
El general Mejía proporcionó más detalles en una entrevista con W Radio, señalando que en la región se encuentran desplegados 900 efectivos militares. El objetivo de esta operación es neutralizar el «corredor estratégico» que los grupos ilegales utilizan para continuar con la producción y tráfico de clorhidrato de cocaína, el cual alimenta los conflictos en la zona.
Este evento subraya la creciente preocupación por el uso de tecnología de drones en conflictos armados y el impacto devastador que puede tener en las comunidades civiles.
