En una reciente encuesta realizada por Reuters/Ipsos, la vicepresidenta de Estados Unidos, Kamala Harris, supera al ex presidente republicano Donald Trump por un margen estrecho de dos puntos porcentuales. Esto ocurre después de que el presidente Joe Biden anunciara el fin de su campaña de reelección y transfiriera su apoyo a Harris.
La encuesta se llevó a cabo el lunes y el martes, justo después de la Convención Nacional Republicana donde Trump aceptó oficialmente la candidatura de su partido, y el anuncio de Biden el domingo de que se retiraba de la contienda y respaldaba a Harris. En este sondeo, Harris cuenta con un 44% de apoyo frente al 42% de Trump, una diferencia que está dentro del margen de error de 3 puntos porcentuales.
En encuestas anteriores, Harris y Trump estaban empatados con un 44% en julio, mientras que en otra realizada a principios de ese mes, Trump tenía una ventaja de un punto porcentual, siempre dentro del margen de error.
La encuesta más reciente revela que el 56% de los votantes registrados consideran a Harris, de 59 años, como «mentalmente aguda y capaz de afrontar retos», comparado con el 49% que opina lo mismo de Trump, de 78 años. Solo el 22% valoró así a Biden.
Biden, de 81 años, decidió poner fin a su intento de reelección después de un debate con Trump en el que se mostró vacilante y no pudo contrarrestar de manera efectiva los ataques de su oponente.
Cuando se incluyó en la encuesta al candidato independiente Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Harris amplió su ventaja sobre Trump a 42% frente a 38%, una diferencia fuera del margen de error. Kennedy, quien tiene un 8% de apoyo en esta encuesta, aún no se ha presentado en muchos estados para las elecciones del 5 de noviembre.
El sondeo, realizado en línea, contó con la participación de 1,241 adultos de todo el país, de los cuales 1,018 eran votantes registrados.
Este panorama electoral muestra un entorno competitivo y dinámico, con Harris posicionándose como una fuerte contendiente en la carrera presidencial tras el retiro de Biden.
