Encuentran en Perú cuerpo momificado de alpinista desaparecido hace 22 años
William Stampfl había sido reportado como desaparecido en junio de 2002 en el nevado más alto de Perú. El hallazgo fue posible por la desglaciación de los nevados a raíz del cambio climático.

En una revelación sorprendente, el cuerpo momificado de William Stampfl, un alpinista estadounidense desaparecido hace 22 años en el nevado Huascarán de Perú, ha sido encontrado en condiciones casi intactas. El descubrimiento fue anunciado por las autoridades policiales este lunes.
William Stampfl, de origen esloveno, desapareció trágicamente en junio de 2002 tras ser sepultado por una avalancha en el Huascarán, un pico imponente que se eleva a 6.757 metros en la región Áncash, al norte de Lima.
«Después de una búsqueda intensiva, el cuerpo momificado y deshidratado de Stampfl fue localizado en el nevado Huascarán», confirmó la policía a través de sus plataformas digitales.
El fenómeno del cambio climático ha desempeñado un papel crucial en este hallazgo extraordinario al propiciar la desglaciación de los nevados de la Cordillera Blanca. Esta transformación ambiental expuso al aire libre el cadáver, preservado en su ropa de escalada, arnés y botas con grampones en excelente estado, según las imágenes compartidas por las autoridades.
La identificación de Stampfl fue posible gracias al pasaporte estadounidense encontrado entre sus pertenencias. En el momento del trágico accidente, Stampfl tenía 59 años. Las condiciones extremas de frío en el nevado, con temperaturas que pueden descender hasta los -19°C durante las noches, probablemente contribuyeron a la conservación del cuerpo desde 2002.
Según el informe policial, el cuerpo fue descubierto a una altitud de 5.200 metros, cerca del campo base uno del nevado, una zona conocida por sus grietas y peligros potenciales.
El cuerpo de Stampfl ha sido trasladado a la morgue de Yungay para procedimientos adicionales. Este hallazgo se suma al descubrimiento reciente del cuerpo de otro escalador italiano en el nevado Cashan, que alcanza los 5.716 metros de altitud.
La Cordillera Blanca, reconocida por su belleza y desafíos, atrae a escaladores de todo el mundo a sus picos majestuosos como el Huascarán y Cashan, haciendo de esta región un destino turístico notable en el noreste de Perú.
