En Burkina Faso, los militares que actualmente detentan el poder han adoptado un proyecto de ley que busca prohibir la homosexualidad, aunque esta medida todavía debe ser aprobada por el Parlamento. Esta decisión fue comunicada oficialmente el jueves, según un informe de AFP.
El Consejo de Ministros aprobó un decreto para establecer un nuevo Código de Personas y de la Familia (CPF, por sus siglas en francés), que explícitamente prohíbe la homosexualidad en el país. «A partir de ahora, la homosexualidad y las prácticas relacionadas están prohibidas y serán castigadas por la ley», declaró Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, ministro de Justicia.
Aunque el decreto establece la prohibición, aún no se han detallado las sanciones específicas para quienes infrinjan esta nueva normativa. Para que entre en vigor, el texto necesita la aprobación de los diputados de la Asamblea Legislativa de Transición.
Hasta este momento, Burkina Faso no contaba con leyes que penalizaran la homosexualidad. Sin embargo, el país, gobernado por el capitán Ibrahim Traoré desde el golpe de Estado en septiembre de 2022, ha tomado medidas recientes que reflejan un endurecimiento en esta materia. En agosto, el regulador de medios prohibió la transmisión de canales de televisión que promuevan la homosexualidad.
La homosexualidad sigue siendo ilegal en un tercio de los países del mundo, y en algunos casos, puede conllevar penas de cárcel o incluso la pena de muerte. En el continente africano, aproximadamente 30 países penalizan las relaciones homosexuales, y varios de ellos, como Ghana y Uganda, han endurecido recientemente sus legislaciones en este sentido.
Esta movida de Burkina Faso es un reflejo de las tensiones y cambios sociales que se viven en diversas partes del mundo respecto a los derechos de las personas LGBTQ+.
