Un informe reciente de la Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario reveló que el consumo de carne vacuna en Argentina está en su nivel más bajo en un siglo, alcanzando solo 44,8 kilos por persona en 2024. Esta cifra representa una marcada disminución desde el promedio histórico de 72,9 kilos por año por habitante.
La situación se atribuye directamente a la grave crisis económica que azota al país, caracterizada por una inflación interanual del 280% hasta mayo de 2024 y una recesión generalizada que ha afectado todas las actividades económicas. Más del 50% de la población argentina, compuesta por 45 millones de habitantes, se encuentra en situación de pobreza según las estadísticas oficiales.
En Buenos Aires, la capital más próspera del país, la tasa de indigencia se ha duplicado, pasando del 8% al 16% en el primer trimestre de 2024 en comparación con el año anterior. Esto ha llevado a un cambio en los hábitos alimenticios de la población, que cada vez más opta por alternativas más económicas como la carne de ave y de cerdo, en detrimento de la carne vacuna.
Según el informe, el consumo total de carnes, incluyendo bovina, aviar y porcina, podría situarse en aproximadamente 105,7 kg por habitante en 2024, lo que representa una reducción de siete kilos respecto al promedio de los últimos diez años, que es de 112,8 kg.
Este cambio en los patrones de consumo refleja no solo las dificultades económicas que enfrenta Argentina, sino también la adaptación de la población a una realidad de mayor austeridad.
