Rudy Giuliani, quien fuera abogado personal de Donald Trump y alcalde de Nueva York de 1994 a 2001, ha sido inhabilitado para ejercer la abogacía en Nueva York. Esta decisión se dio a conocer este martes a través de un documento judicial. Giuliani ya había visto su licencia suspendida por apoyar las afirmaciones de Trump sobre un supuesto fraude en las elecciones presidenciales de 2020, donde el demócrata Joe Biden resultó vencedor.
El tribunal de apelaciones de Nueva York describió la mala conducta de Giuliani como extremadamente grave, ordenando su inhabilitación inmediata y hasta nuevo aviso. Esta medida agrava aún más la situación legal del exalcalde, conocido popularmente como «el alcalde de Estados Unidos» por su liderazgo durante los ataques del 11 de septiembre de 2001.
En diciembre pasado, Giuliani, ahora de 80 años, se declaró en bancarrota tras ser condenado a pagar más de 148 millones de dólares por difamación contra dos agentes electorales en 2020. Además, en mayo fue inculpado en Arizona junto a otras 17 personas por intentar revertir la derrota de Trump en ese estado, donde Biden ganó por un estrecho margen de poco más de 10,000 votos. En Georgia, también enfrenta cargos similares.
Además de estos problemas, Giuliani enfrenta una denuncia en Nueva York por parte de una exempleada que lo acusa de acoso sexual y robo de salario, acusaciones que él niega. En Washington, está suspendido y pendiente de una decisión definitiva del Tribunal de Apelaciones de la capital respecto a otro procedimiento de inhabilitación.
Esta serie de problemas legales y financieros pone a Giuliani en una posición extremadamente difícil, enfrentando múltiples batallas en los tribunales y una creciente presión económica.
