Al menos 15 muertos deja choque de trenes en India
Un tren de pasajeros fue impactado por otro de carga, aparentemente debido a una falla humana, dijeron las autoridades. Hay decenas de heridos.

En el noreste de la India, un trágico choque entre un tren de pasajeros y un tren de mercancías resultó en la muerte de al menos 15 personas y más de veinte heridos. El accidente, ocurrido a las 8:50 horas del lunes, tuvo lugar en una estación del distrito de Darjeeling, Bengala Occidental, un popular destino turístico.
Según las autoridades, el accidente parece haber sido causado por un error humano. El superintendente adjunto de policía del distrito de Darjeeling, Abhishek Roy, informó que hasta el momento se han recuperado los cuerpos de 15 personas, incluido el conductor de uno de los trenes. Cerca de 60 personas fueron trasladadas a hospitales cercanos, aunque la mayoría ya ha sido dada de alta. Sin embargo, entre 20 y 25 personas permanecen hospitalizadas.
Las operaciones de rescate continúan con la ayuda de los vecinos de la zona, por lo que no se descarta que haya más pasajeros atrapados en los vagones dañados. El tren expreso involucrado en el accidente viajaba desde el estado de Assam hacia la ciudad de Calcuta, en Bengala Occidental.
Dado que el conductor del tren de mercancías falleció en el incidente, la investigación sobre las causas exactas del choque se ve dificultada. La directora de la Junta de Ferrocarriles, Jaya Varma Sinha, indicó en una rueda de prensa que aparentemente hubo una omisión de señales, pero que se obtendrán más detalles tras una investigación exhaustiva. Además, el asistente del conductor del tren de mercancías y el guardia del tren de pasajeros Kanchenjunga Express también murieron en el accidente.
Imágenes difundidas por canales de televisión muestran uno de los vagones en posición vertical y parcialmente en el aire, mientras que otros vagones y contenedores de carga quedaron destrozados o descarrilados tras el impacto. Todavía no se ha confirmado el número exacto de pasajeros que viajaban en el tren expreso en el momento del accidente.
El primer ministro indio, Narendra Modi, expresó sus condolencias a las familias de las víctimas a través de un mensaje en X (anteriormente conocido como Twitter). «El accidente ferroviario en Bengala Occidental es triste. Mis condolencias a quienes perdieron a sus seres queridos. Rezo para que los heridos se recuperen lo antes posible. He hablado con los funcionarios y hecho un balance de la situación. Se están realizando operaciones de rescate para ayudar a los afectados», aseguró.
Las autoridades continúan trabajando para esclarecer las causas del accidente y asistir a las víctimas, mientras la comunidad se une en solidaridad y apoyo a los afectados por esta tragedia.
