Aulia Rakhman, el humorista en cuestión, fue hallado culpable de insultar a la religión por sus comentarios sobre el nombre Mahoma durante su actuación en diciembre pasado.
Durante su monólogo, Aulia Rakhman hizo una broma sobre el prestigio del nombre Mahoma, sugiriendo que los indonesios con ese nombre a menudo se comportaban mal. Esta declaración provocativa fue grabada y compartida en redes sociales, lo que llevó a su enjuiciamiento.
El nombre Mahoma es común en Indonesia, el país con la mayor población musulmana del mundo, lo que añadió un mayor peso a la controversia en torno a las palabras del comediante. Este caso es solo uno de los numerosos incidentes de acusaciones por blasfemia y otros delitos religiosos en Indonesia en los últimos años.
En 2022, seis personas fueron arrestadas por blasfemia después de ofrecer una botella de alcohol a quienes se llamaran Mahoma o Maria en una cadena de bares. Además, en 2017, el exgobernador de Yakarta, conocido como Ahok, fue condenado a dos años de prisión por blasfemia, generando un intenso debate sobre la libertad de expresión y religión en el país.
La situación se complicó aún más hace dos años, cuando el Parlamento aprobó una reforma del Código Penal que amplió las leyes contra la blasfemia y tipificó la apostasía como un crimen. Estas reformas incluyeron penas de hasta cinco años de cárcel para aquellos que expresaran opiniones públicas o llevaran a cabo «actos hostiles» contra las religiones practicadas en Indonesia.
Sin embargo, estas medidas han sido objeto de críticas por parte de activistas de derechos humanos, quienes argumentan que restringen las libertades fundamentales de expresión y religión. La reforma también intensificó las sanciones contra el sexo extramarital, lo que ha generado preocupación sobre el respeto a los derechos individuales y las libertades civiles en el país.
